Local Area Networking

Network Support in OregonYour local area network is the 'work'group of computers that talk with each other in the building where you work and/or put in your computer time. This could be your home, your office or your business. When you open, load or save a file to (or from) a computer nearby or, you print to a printer connected to (or hosted by) another computer then, this is 'Computer Networking'! If you have more than 3 or 4 computers on your local network and there is no "Server" centralizing your data files and printing, then consider moving from your decentralized peer-to-peer environment to a Server-Client based network.

On a Server-Client based Network, one (or more) centralized 'Server(s)' is/are used to store and backup all your files and also to control your users' printing requests. To use a Server on your network is more reliable, more secure, far more cost-effective, faster, more consistent and, it extends the life of older computers.

For help and assistance with purchasing a Server or, to discuss your Small Business Networking needs then please call our English speaking North American based network support line today at (503) 436-2459 and - hear the difference!  We guarantee measurably improved network performance!

Remote Access

Remote Access implies accessing your everyday computer files and data from a distant or, Remote Location. You might be in another city, on vacation or, taking 10 at an Internet café. Regardless of your physical 'absence' from home or office, you are 'Remotely Accessing' your files and data through the Internet.

Remote Access Do you need Remote Access to your computer while away from your home or office? No Problem! Do you need VPN access to your company data files or Exchange Email system? No Problem! We take the confusion out of Remote Access, build a foundation to support your "on-the-road" users, and let you know the pro's, con's and costs involved along with the options available to you. Whether you need connectivity to your data, your printers, your servers, your email or, all of the above - all the time - we make that happen for you; consistently, securely, reliably and cost effectively.

Remote Desktop

Remote Desktop RDPRemote Desktop is a Remote Access solution for Windows based computers to connect to other computers running Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Business, Windows Server Versions 2000, 2003, 2008 etc.. When you connect to these computers or, 'Remote Desktop Servers', it is like sitting in front of the Remote Computer (Desktop Server). You are a Remote Desktop Client connecting - remotely - to the Remote Desktop Server. Keystrokes and Video are all that are passed between the computers. Windows Remote Desktop Protocol is fast, reliable, safe, secure, relatively low cost, low maintenance, and has a very slim learning curve. Microsoft's Remote Desktop is a fast, easy and low cost. In short, an excellent solution for Remotely accessing your own or your company's data. For more information about setting up Remote Access to your Network with Microsoft's Remote Desktop please call us at (503) 436-2459 or, contact us here.

VPN or Virtual Private Networking

Virtual Private NetworkingVPN is a secure tunnel through the internet with your computer at one end and your home, office or company's data files and printers at the other end. You are directly connected to your remote network via a tunnel - through the internet - and can, just like being "at the office", connect to your printers, mapped network drives, data files, contact and e-mail information etc.. You are yet another node (computer) on your home, office or company's network.

VPN performance is "not so bad" as long as there's no big files being edited or opened though the VPN tunnel. Data transfers can get really slow when opening an 80MB Adobe file (attachment!) through your company's Server - while travelling in remote geographical areas.

Either way, Remote Desktop and VPN technologies are two of the primary methods of Remote Access to your home or office data files while "on-the-road". Both methods of remotely accessing your company's data files are effective and, when coupled with an Exchange 2003 Email Server at the back end there is really no need to ever be "out-of-touch" with what's happening at data central. For a free Remote Access or VPN Network consultation for your office or small business then please call our English speaking North American Remote Access support line at: (503) 436-2459 - and hear the difference!

Network Topology Documentation

Network DocumentationYou need to document your Network's Topology. Period! The third most expensive part of your computer network system is inadequate documentation - the first two being i) the lack of an effective backup and ii) the lack of adequate security (including end-user training). Documentation of your IT Network provides consistency, reliability and continuity to one of your most valuable IT assets. Companies who have their Network Topology documented are almost always more secure, more flexible and less reliant on a single point of contact for their Network's growth and development.

If you need your IT Network Topology documented and clarified then please call North Coast Computer Services in Oregon at (503) 436-2459.
