Searching and finding Programs and Data in Windows Vista is a little different than Windows XP.

If you want to find an application program or data file or, piece of data quickly in Windows Vista then the way to do the “Vista Search” is to:

Click on your “Start” button and look just above it - at the bottom left of the Start Menu:

  • Windows Vista Search Field

Just where you see the grey words “Start Search” - above - is where you want to start typing your Search Phrase.

Imagine you want to Search for a Program or Data file containing the word “Web”.

As in the picture below, just start typing the word “web” and results will begin to appear in the left column. See below:

Vista will search for Applications, Programs, File Folders, Files, and Text within files.
